Loving Yourself First

self-loveBefore you can love others, you must love yourself first and foremost. Speak only lovingly to yourself and about yourself, there are a multitude of benefits that you will experience with a boost to your self-esteem.

Here are some ways to get started:

  1. Make yourself a priority
  2. Stop comparing yourself to others
  3. List your strengths and focus on them
  4. De-clutter your surroundings
  5. Become active, walk, run, swim
  6. Express yourself creatively doing whatever makes you happy cooking, pottery, photography, dancing, art
  7. Surround yourself with positive people who will support you
  8. Be your own best friend, take a deep breath and know you’re doing the best that you can

How does resistance to self-love show up in your life? Are you staying with someone who you aren’t aligned with? Are you staying in a job that you are unhappy with? Is your health idling? Are you stuck in the problems of your life?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, then it is time to embrace love for yourself. Then the actions you take will not only benefit you, but everyone involved. What you’re effecting is an act of compassion to yourself that spreads like wildfire to everyone around you.

Kindness and love are natural to us. When you show compassion toward yourself then you’re helping to create a more peaceful and loving world.

The Scariest and Most Important Turning Point in My Life

crossroads2

There are many crossroads throughout our lives, but when we choose to live mindfully we know those crossroads are turning points and a time to push past the fear and walk tall into the abyss of the unknown, for it is than that our light truly shines, no matter how apprehensive we are.

My Story

I never dreamed in a million years that I would walk away from my successful corporate job and never look back.  I had built a strong career, I earned a great income and I had a lot of nice things; even though that appeared to be my dream life, I was very unhappy. But when an unexpected job loss came, I knew this time things had to change, it was time to go inside to uncover the real me.

Up until this momentous transition, my life revolved around the importance of my title, my job performance, and how much money I made. If a job ended I never gave it a second thought, I just invested all of my energy into finding another. Even though I was very successful, underneath I was aware that I didn’t ever feel like I was where I belonged but I had no idea why or what to do about it.

Initially I thought I was just going to change the direction of my career; instead I chose to rip my life back to the “studs” for a complete renovation.  I was ready to stop having headaches, toss my watch aside and feel good about my life. Transitioning from living my life for an income to making a life has been messy and taken me out of my comfort zone, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. Now my life is about taking risks, living my life my way and knowing that I will never compromise my values again.  My life is richer and I have never been happier.

For years I believed that my life was the way it was and there was nothing I could do about it.  After several years of being awake, I now understand that I can choose who I want to be and what kind of life I want. Living in a state of awareness has been an inside job that defies everything I’ve ever been taught.  I truly love the woman I am becoming, it is work every day, but it is a job I’ve never enjoyed more. Since I chose to feel good and enjoy my life by following my passion, my life has changed and improved a million fold.  I owe a great portion of that change to gratitude and love of myself and my life.

A life of consciousness will always be filled with twists and turns, but when we know that we have a choice, we feel stronger and more alive. Every situation, no matter what it is, has been a part of the process of change necessary to be where I am at in my life today. When I feel blue or I’m hard on myself, I stop what I am doing, take a deep breath and reflect on how far I’ve come and where I am in that moment. I am amazed and proud to say that I’ve become a brave, courageous, compassionate pioneer of change.

Often people attempt to live their lives backwards. They try to have more of what they want so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You first must be who you are, then love what you do, in order to have what you want.~  Margaret Young

Be Invincible

This inspirational video is less about Jared’s problem and more about his journey.  We all have overwhelming problems that seem to be the way our life is and nothing ever seems to change.  We are so close to our problems that we don’t see that no one but us can change it.  When we finally decide to do something, we encounter what seem to be roadblocks to our outcome, when it’s all there to help us become what we are striving toward, in God’s way, love.

Jared’s story is an inspiration to us all to be unstoppable, determined and love ourselves enough to want to be the best we can be on regardless of what barriers are put in front of us.

Do you live mindfully?

?????????????????

What have you consciously chosen to do today that will bring you joy?

Her stories were about hating her church and a breakup with a boyfriend. She talked as though she had no choice. I listened without saying anything, then when she stopped and looked at me as if for guidance, I said, “Only you know in your heart what is right for you.”

Then she spent the next ten minutes talking about her break-up situation as if she had no part in it. When she said thought she was going to die, and then just stood there, I gently offered “but you didn’t, you’re still here.” She hesitated, looked at me and then went back to  her story and continued to talk about how badly she was treated and how she couldn’t believe it.  I offered a consideration for her, “Now you know what you don’t want in your life.” This time she stopped and just looked at me and nodded her head.

Life is all about choices and decisions. When you choose in your own favor accessing your conscious mind, you are committing that you love yourself enough to know in your heart you are worthy of a good life.  No one can do or say anything to you without you allowing them to do it.  It is up to you to choose consciously who you want in your life and the way you want your life to go, no one but you.

Mindfulness means to choose consciously and create ways to live in alignment with your truth. I haven’t always been good at that, it has taken time to break the chains of old beliefs and conditioning. For me, digging deeply into why I do things and think the way I do has been a huge step forward for me.  I have chosen to study the “Course in Miracles” as my guide toward better understanding of how I can change my patterns from just letting life happen to changing the direction that is best for me and correcting my thoughts.  It has changed my life.

Starting each morning with conscious choices like how I wake up, to what I eat to and how I get ready to meet the day, no matter what I am doing has improved a lot since I chose this approach.  Rather than allowing myself to fall into thoughts and behaviors as I did when I was working in big business, I create my day to be a unique and positive reflection of the way I want my life to be, consciously.

It takes thought, stopping yourself from acting, saying and being as you always have to actually paying attention to your actions and words in beneficial way.  Not only to those around you, but to yourself.  This change isn’t about pleasing the people around you, it is about feeling great about yourself and treating yourself with love and compassion.

Find what works for you and don’t let anything stop you from going for a mindful life. Happiness and enjoying life aren’t for special occasions, it is your birthright.  When you change the way you live, your life will change for the better.
