Into 2020 – Start From Now and Make a Brand New Ending

My new year transition begins on the 30th as I reflect on my accomplishments and the risks I took to improve my life and myself. As the new year approaches, reduce the pressure on yourself to make drastic and improbable changes as the new year approaches. As with any time in our lives, the most beneficial practice is to begin with where you are in the moment and then the outcome will blossom from that.

My most recent venture as I look forward toward my vision for myself was to become a member of a photography site of professionals where I submit my images for critiques and advice. I knew the only way forward to being a better photographer was to open myself to commentaries made by experts who know that I am there to accept their comments, learn and improve. I am excited for the changes that are going to come from that decision.

“Life’s not about expecting, hoping and wishing, it’s about doing, being and becoming.” Mike Dooley

Choose Wisely, Choose Intentionally

Choices are the hinges of destiny.” —Edwin Markham

We live most of our lives believing that we are limited or have no choice, especially in difficult situations. It doesn’t have to be that way, rather than thinking what’s the use and giving up, believe in a better future, decide a course of action by using your life experience and instincts for an outcome that you desire. Whenever I’ve been in a position that required I make a choice especially if it’s complex, I make sure that my happiness and peace of mind are the primary conditions for my final decision.

Every time you’ve had a complicated choice to make, are you choosing with your happiness and values as a priority or on another person’s perception, opinions and feelings with the expectation that you’ll have to live with an outcome that you don’t want?

That question is to prompt you to rethink your patterns;  what are your priorities in making tough decisions, are you choosing based on logic or your intuition? Many of the choices we make are complex and may take much consideration, our values and quality of life have to be a top priority if we want to be happy and fulfilled. Remember if it is to be, it’s up to you, even if it means leaving your comfort zone.

Consider the outcome when you decide with someone else’s life in mind before your own.  Are you really being selfish if you decide on behalf of what works for you?  In my opinion, no.  Making choices that are right for us means we cannot be and should not ever be responsible for someone else’s happiness.

Choosing for ourselves is a right we all deserve, especially since most of us have dealt with people who’ve tried to take our ability to choose away.  Only you know how you want your life to be, never, ever is that anyone’s decision but yours.  That is why choosing consciously and relying on your intuition are optimal ways for you to decide.

Choices have a number of possibilities whether real or imagined, ultimately the choices we make will affect our lives forever. Just think about all of the events in history that have taken place because someone made a choice to do something differently.  You cannot control the world, but you can control how you respond to situations and the choices you make to deal with them. From my own personal experience, no matter what happens outside of you, when you stay focused on making a decision based on what is right for you and you trust yourself, happiness is just a choice away.

Some questions to ask yourself and ways you can make a decision from James Van Praagh:

  1. What is important and valuable to you? What you value may not be of much import to someone else. So know what you value most.
  2. Don’t lose focus on your future. Many people tend to make choices based on life as it appears now instead of looking to the future. Does your choice and its ramifications stay within the goals that you have set for yourself for the future?
  3. Have you looked at all the alternatives and considered different scenarios? Sometimes you just might consider a different outcome.
  4. How important is this decision, and are you willing to work on it? Don’t get caught up with how important a choice is, but — better yet — what a positive impact this has on your life.
  5. Don’t forget to use your “intuition” for your choice instead of your head.

I believe we all have a purpose and path that is affected by the free will choices we make. If we make choices by paying attention to our inner guidance, how God is speaking to us and what we feel in our heart, our path will be forever changed if we just flip the switch and choose.

Did you Know that Creativity and Consciousness are Connected?

Creativity is a process of transforming the raw energy, information, and material of the universe into something that has never before existed. Whether you are creating a new business, an original piece of music, or a relationship, creativity requires a leap in awareness – a quantum jump from one pattern of thinking to an entirely new one, without progressing through incremental steps. In one moment a creative idea doesn’t exist, and in the next, it is part of our conscious world. In between, where was the idea? It came from the field of pure potentiality, which gives rise to everything in the universe.. Deepak Chopra

I was sure things had changed when I opened up to a life of consciousness because I’m naturally creative, drawn to the arts, photography, music, cooking and creative writing.  Because I am living consciously, I’ve become conditioned to rely on creativity in unique ways.  Part of that process for me is being still to let the vision or idea emerge, it is always fascinating to see what I can come up with.  What we are taught and what we are capable of is miles apart.

I find it interesting that when we’re young, we create entire worlds through our unlimited imaginations. When I reflect on my growing up years, the Beatles, Julia Child and Walt Disney stand out as a unique, creative people who conceived something that never existed before and what an impact each has made.  As some of us reach adulthood, we tend to use our imagination less because we’ve been made to believe that our brain loses its capacity to evolve and transform creatively.  Most adults believe if they can’t draw or sing, then they aren’t creative and that just isn’t true.

Have you ever gotten a great idea or imagined something and just let it go?  We all have unique ideas, use your imagination, you never know what you can create.  Whether we express our creativity through dance, music, art or communication, it is an essential part of who we are. When we are in the flow of creativity, we are also naturally in a state of mindfulness. The benefits of using our imagination is the ability to solve challenges differently and we will live our lives more creatively.  Scientists are now advising that our brain has the ability to form new neural pathways until we are very old, so don’t let old beliefs stop you from creating, go for it!

I live in a state of being open to creatively using my imagination to do things differently. After all, my date of birth is the same as Walt Disney’s, what a mentor to encourage creativity!  A few months ago I volunteered for a nonprofit thrift store.  I began by just processing donations and organizing the merchandise on the shelves.  As I became more involved and passionate about their mission, I intuitively found imaginative ways to display the merchandise which unknowingly helped to increase sales.  I continued to use my imagination to create ways to help the merchandise sell quickly.  The day I left to move,  the manager told me that I made a significant impact on their organization and all that happened was I went with the flow of my creativity and I had fun. A great pairing, consciousness and ingenuity, to germinate any seedling waiting to be watered with creativity to generate something brand new.

Creativity is the foundation for innovative problem solving, new products, inventions, ingenious ideas, new ways to benefit the world, the basis for re-creating a relationship or finding a new way to do something.  When we take the leap to tap into our creativity, we will be an inspiration and a force for using our imagination to those around us. Trust in your innate sense of creativity, change your life and change the world.

I believe in being an innovator. Walt Disney

A New Beginning for Me, Returning Home – Part 2 Unanticipated Bravery

I arrived safely at my first destination in Wyoming.  The trip was a three and a half day adventure I will never forget. I hope that my determination to be happy and live life my way can inspire you to be brave.

There is nothing more liberating for the soul than to allow yourself to be braver than you’ve ever been in your life.  I’d been living in an unimaginably difficult situation  I realized I couldn’t change, so I finally opened up and shared my circumstances and my sister and brother-in-law who threw me a life line to help me.  A life lesson from this experience is no matter how awakened we are, we cannot always handle difficult situations on our own. In fact, the help I got to leave was the best decision for both myself and the other person involved, I knew it was the right and only thing to do.

I realized I had to do whatever it took, no matter how scared I was not only for myself but for the people I love.  It takes courage and belief in the impossible to look past a situation we are in to do what is necessary for ourselves.  Being brave in my way of seeing things means we have to love ourselves enough to know we are worthy of the best life we can have, no matter what we are faced with.

Being brave is letting go of fear of the unknown, because everything we need will be there for us, it was for me. I’d considered ways out of my situation many times, but I held off on the obvious solution because I was sure I could never do it, but I did it and while there were unexpected challenges along the way, I kept going knowing that I was on my way to a better life.

I  believe that everything happens for a reason.  When I was helped by the kindness of my family, I knew I wanted to extend kindness any way I could to pay it forward. When you’re life doesn’t feel right or good,  love yourself enough to be braver than you’ve ever been and do what you know is right. My advice to anyone contemplating a major life change is to ignore what everyone else thinks or says and do what feels right in your heart, life is too short not to and so much better when you follow the wisdom of your heart.

The Universe (the real Secret); How to Make it Work for You

No one knows something that the rest of us don’t. There are plenty of books and teachings that offer the misguided idea that there is a secret or unknown process that only they know for you to manifest everything you want from great financial gain to the perfect life mate. Every one of us has the same abilities, the real secret is to become aware of your life and then work with the Universe to make the changes that will move you forward.

The Universe/God isn’t associated with a specific religion, spiritual organization or special people, it just is and it helps us align with our path through all of our life experiences. It is available to everyone all of the time and in its divine perfection provides everything we need, no matter who we are or where we live.

Working with the Universe isn’t about forcing a situation or people nor is it about sitting and waiting for the world to come to us.  It is about being aware when the time is right, taking guided action and seizing the right opportunity when it appears. When we allow the outcome to be whatever it is, the Universe will bring the right solutions and people at the perfect time.

Have faith and believe that the Universe/God is always supporting us, things happen when we least expect them to, there is a divine time for everything. Accept your life as it is, allow the Universe/God to create the perfect situation and I promise you’ll be surprised.

I cannot count the times the Universe has surprised me. I felt stuck, I didn’t know what to do or how to move forward when everything began to happen and what I needed flowed to me exactly as it should.  My most recent experience with the miracles of the Universe happened when I wanted to move to a new location. Being mindful made it easy for me to notice the signs, the energy and the way things were going to prepare me.

How to work with the ways of the Universe to create your own magic:

  • Be appreciative for what you do have, that is the foundation for opening life’s doors for you
  • Take time to be still, your heart always knows what it needs
  • If you believe in Angels let them help you, when you ask they will be there for you
  • Ask for an outcome to best serve everyone involved rather than for specific results
  • Combine positive thoughts and ideas with guided action to bring what you need to life
  • Pray or talk whenever you feel the need, there is no special time or place
  • Rather than beg, thank the Universe for bringing the best situation or solution as though it already is
  • Visualize – relax, close your eyes and use your imagination. Include all of your senses, hearing, touch, feeling and smell to mentally create the situation as a complete success
  • Become aware of things going on around you, be observant of everything
  • Pay attention to your gut instinct, it is in perfect sync with the Universe
  • Signs are everywhere, look for them, they are always there to let you know you’re on the right track
  • When your inner voice directs you, take whatever steps you can, then when you’ve done everything you can, give it to the Universe/God and let life happen
  • Pay attention to clear messages or opportunities, (the woman I now rent with was the most enthusiastic person I connected with, I knew in my heart that she was sent to me)
  • Be prepared for things to move quickly. You won’t always be given a lot of time to act. It takes strength, courage, tenacity and determination to flow with the Universe

Bagels and Angels

The Bagels

This week I made a batch of bagels, my second go at making homemade.  I wish I had asked the angels to intervene in my attempt because I really needed their help. Everything was going well, they were beautiful, almost perfect in shape and size before I popped them in the oven.  The oven we have is a bit off so when I checked after 10 minutes, they were beginning to firm up, but the bagels were still pale.  I turned the oven up, but when I checked on them the bagels were still light in color. Then I got the idea to turn on the broiler, just for a couple of minutes.  Well, that was one minute too long, when the timer went off, I ran into the kitchen to retrieve my beautiful bagels only to see dark smoke coming out of the oven.

I was so disappointed.  I pulled open the door, the bagels were dark on top, the sesame seeds were ashes. So, I grabbed a nearby knife and began scraping.  I managed to salvage all 10 of them, but oh how I wish I had called on my angels for perfect bagels.  I know that next time, I will definitely ask them to help me produce golden, unburnt bagels.

The Angels

I believe there are Angels all around us and they can be a vital part of our lives. For me, they are a significant part of my life and spiritual practices. They are my friends, life support, inner wisdom and gentle reminders to rely on love and compassion.

Did you know angels will never interfere in your life if they are not called upon? The only time they intervene without being asked for is when you’re in a life threatening situation before your time. This isn’t something I knew all those years ago, but I am forever grateful that they are always there watching and waiting to help.

My life wouldn’t be what it is without them. Many years ago, I was transformed when I experienced an amazing angel intervention.

The Intervention

A friend and I planned a Saturday fun night at her place, we were going to have dinner, then watch a movie with lots of conversation in-between. As usual, Saturday was busy for me, so I had to keep an eye on the time so I wouldn’t be late. The drive to her home was just what I needed, it was my time to enjoy the beauty around me and unwind. When I got there, the sun was just slipping beyond the horizon, its rays were glinting off the jagged edges of the mountain range just a few miles away, it was beautiful.

When she answered the door, her two dogs greeted me with their usual enthusiasm. We worked our way to the kitchen where I made myself comfortable while she finished making dinner. By the time we finished eating and cleaned up, it was well after 8. It had been a long day for both of us so we were ready to relax.  We grabbed a soda, she put the movie in the VCR then we made ourselves comfortable. When the movie ended, as always we talked about it, then I happened to look over at the time and saw it was nearly 11 so I cut the conversation short to head for home.

I chose an easy, well-lit route where I knew the traffic would be light. The first leg of my drive was fairly uneventful.  There was little traffic around me so it was easy to notice the rather new white pick-up truck driving next to me. there was soft music playing on the radio, I was relaxed.

As I scanned the road ahead, I saw a compact blue car accelerate from the driveway it was in out into traffic. In a state of disbelief at what was happening, my heart pounding, I couldn’t comprehend what was taking place. All of sudden my headlights were reflecting on the side of the blue car that had come to stop.  One last attempt to avoid a collision I turned the steering wheel to veer the car into the next lane but the pick-up truck was there. I panicked, all I could think was I am going to die. I closed my eyes expecting a crash, it felt like the end. Then there was silence. what happened? I slowly opened my eyes not knowing what to expect. I was still in my car, the road was clear and my car was still moving forward. I couldn’t believe it, there was no crash. I was numb and confused, I couldn’t understand what had just happened. I began crying uncontrollably, I couldn’t catch my breath. I drove home and fell into my mother’s arms grateful to be alive. I realized that I had just experienced Divine intervention, I was forever changed.

Today, I intentionally live with angels around me with great comfort and peace. Angels are non-religious and present everywhere. The help they give isn’t always what we want and may even seem like they aren’t helping at all, but I’ve come to understand that they give us what we need, which is always better than what we want.

Angels are a beautiful divine presence there for us so we never feel alone, and always feel comforted and safe in their benevolent protection. When you connect with the Angels, they always speak with you. It is that tiny, faint whisper that lovingly guides you in the direction of love, compassion and kindness.

Thank you for stopping by. May you be surrounded by angels.

Loving Yourself First

self-loveBefore you can love others, you must love yourself first and foremost. Speak only lovingly to yourself and about yourself, there are a multitude of benefits that you will experience with a boost to your self-esteem.

Here are some ways to get started:

  1. Make yourself a priority
  2. Stop comparing yourself to others
  3. List your strengths and focus on them
  4. De-clutter your surroundings
  5. Become active, walk, run, swim
  6. Express yourself creatively doing whatever makes you happy cooking, pottery, photography, dancing, art
  7. Surround yourself with positive people who will support you
  8. Be your own best friend, take a deep breath and know you’re doing the best that you can
  9. Be true to you, enjoy the unique beautiful person that you are

How does resistance to self-love show up in your life? Are you staying with someone who you aren’t aligned with? Are you staying in a job that you are unhappy with? Is your health idling? Are you stuck in the problems of your life?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, then it is time to embrace love for yourself. Then the actions you take will not only benefit you, but everyone involved. What you’re effecting is an act of compassion to yourself that spreads like wildfire to everyone around you.

Kindness and love are natural to us. When you show compassion toward yourself then you’re helping to create a more peaceful and loving world.

Even when You’re at Rock Bottom, Remember Obstacles are Your Greatest Teacher

Whether you’re disabled, disadvantaged, live with an illness, are homeless, have had a rough past or you’re dealing with inner pain that no one can see, obstacles that seem to block your progress are really there to help you become stronger, resilient, determined, brave and connected to your version of God or your higher self. When we stand up for ourselves and rise, we inspire others to do the same.

When adversity comes at us, we feel like life is throwing complications and hardship at us to cause hardship and pain.  We want to run, we drown our sorrows in alcohol, drug addiction, food addiction, self-pity, victimization, isolation and depression. Fighting life’s challenges never changes or solves anything, accepting and dealing with them does.

I used to resist by reacting, crying, asking why me and things only got worse. When I finally paid attention and realized the way to make my life better was up to me then everything changed. Instead of seeing those difficulties as something to fear and feel helpless to overcome, I now understand that they are actually first-class teachers that serve a purpose and an opportunity to ascend to our greatest self.

  • Worry and panic do nothing but hurt you and make things worse
  • Numbing yourself only prolongs the pain and the issue
  • Pray
  • You can do this
  • You are worthy
  • You are loved
  • You are beautiful
  • You are valuable
  • You are here for a purpose
  • Be an inspiration to yourself and everyone around you by rising above whatever life brings
  • Get help if you need it
  • Lean on friends for support
  • Seek group support if that feels right for you
  • You matter
  • Your life matters
  • Who you are inside is what will propel you forward
  • Love is everywhere and everything and all that matters

Consider problems or difficulties as a crossroad with choices, so stop, take a breath and sit with it until whatever needs to be done to move forward comes. No matter what you’re faced with, you can work your way through it by adapting a different perspective so you will become better, not just for yourself but for everyone in your life.

Thank you for stopping by, namaste.

The Art of Listening with Your Heart

Listening with your heart requires that you sit silently and listen without judgment. This way of listening compels you to be supportive and to help someone to reach inside to find the answers they are seeking themselves.  It isn’t easy, but it is a great way to empower yourself and the other person.

A few years ago I took a day long workshop focused on learning to listen with your heart.  It sounded simple, but it isn’t. We have been taught to listen half-heartedly waiting with bated breath for the moment when there is a break to inject our opinion and advice.

In my workshop, when the person we were paired with spoke, we had to sit silently, look them in the eyes and be fully present while they spoke.  When they were finished, the lesson was to empower them with praise for their willingness to share and provide support without telling them what to do. It was a lesson in humility because we believe that we can solve someone else’s problems or steer them in the direction according to how we’ve handled situations and how they could improve the way they’re handling things if only they’d listen to our sage advice.  That approach can only makes things worse and drive people apart.

I learned a lot that day. Now, when someone wants to share their situation, I ask if they want my perspective before I jump in knowing that they may not accept or believe that it is the way to go.  Listening with your heart is showing respect, compassion and kindness just by being there.

Most people just want someone to listen while they sort through the challenges they are faced with.  You don’t have to agree with their method of handing a situation furthermore you really don’t know what someone else is going through. Once a person vents and gets everything out, they can and should come upon solutions themselves. Don’t take it personally, it is never about us, it is about learning to go above and beyond to be conscious and caring.
